A contemporary industrial home showcasing a passion for outdoor living and connection to nature. The design embraces sweeping views of the environment in a u-shaped courtyard form while also taking full advantage of natural light and cross ventilation. The home has been designed to be considerate to the context by setting itself into the landscape so as not to detract from the beauty of the natural surroundings.
A variety of materials interact to create a modern industrial feel – insitu concrete, zincalume corrugated sheeting, steel, glass and sliding timber screens add patterned textures and cast an array of varying shadows on the building envelope throughout the day.
The design of this home is unapologetically modern, however extensive use of natural materials and finishes softens the visual appearance. Organised in a linear manner with rooms facing the predominant views with double volumes penetrated vertically by feature circulation elements. The design is sympathetic to the natural surroundings, embedding itself into the natural slope allowing the landscape to wrap itself onto the upper level in the form of landscaped roofs. The dominant building elements are dramatic cantilevered planes of reinforced concrete and view facing walls of full height glass (either fixed or large sliding doors). The upper level houses the bedrooms and study and is clad in moveable timber screens for privacy and sun control. It floats as a dynamic box above expansive outdoor terraces and series of decks that cascade with the landscape towards a rim-flow pool.
This unique home is an exercise in simplicity – designed as a series of stark, concrete and glass boxes that interconnect over a sloped landscaped, enclosing a terraced courtyard. The negative space that is formed is left in such a way that allows one to read the original topography of the site, which then passes freely underneath the upper level, through the outdoor entertainment area onto a series of cascading decks towards the forest edge. The imposing concrete forms of clean lines and sharp edges are in direct contrast to the surrounding rolling hills however the use of contrasting natural materials and raw textures add warmth and soften the otherwise overall slick and sophisticated appearance.
A dynamic design with an exposed structural steel frame, designed particularly for the more challenging sites with steep inclines, heavily wooded with indigenous trees and vegetation. The house with it’s series of timber decks is carefully perched on the extreme slope and raised above the ground, floating as a “tree-house” amidst the upper branches of the large trees inhabiting the site. The interior has been meticulouse designed and is fully customisable, with a seamless flow from dining, kitchen and living areas to an expansive exterior undercover deck, perfect for entertainment and to enjoy the natural space with your family.
